Imagining Big...

Hypothetically talking and working we have been approached by a friend of ours who knows something about baking (used to be a fine bread baker)... and told us to try to come up with something that might be of interest for a new bakery/cafe to be in town.

"There is this big wall they have, that might need something...", so we were told.

Therefore hypothetically talking and working we came up with this idea - a collage of muted prints and print transfers on a humongous canvas, not stretched, just captured in between two wooden boards in its most natural and simplistic form and shape. Imagery would be determined per project specifics...but here it is - as is - to convey the idea.

Chicken N Pickle | work-in-progress

Last summer I had a chance to start working on an exciting new project located in North KC. It is a new start-up concept for fast-and-casual restaurant combining healthy and fresh chicken meals and pickle ball. The site will provide 4 covered pickle ball courts for a year long sporting and social activities, 4 open courts during warm seasons, a restaurant with bar and a beer garden with games and play activities courtyard.

I am really enjoying working on this project because I get to design a lot here (!) - from the architectural concept, interior concept,  landscape concept to graphics from banners to menus! That is what I call a complete package!

Phase 1 is to be open soon (all courts and beer garden) !!!

BCBS KC - executive floor graphics

Last portion of the BCBS project was an executive suit. We worked with same theme - Kansas City Blue but this time with different type of glass graphic process and different approach in imagery. The imagery is superimposed over each other in separate layers of different colors therefore creating an ever changing experience while walking by.

BCBS Kansas City - HQ lobby

Large scale and long term project that kept us busy together with Mike for about a year. 11ft by 60ft of printed back lit glass panels in the lobby of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Headquarters in downtown Kansas City. We collaborated on the graphic itself in many many rounds. I had a pretty strong and clear vision since I was part of the project design team as well and therefore our efforts had many "shades and hues". Lot of times it felt like one step forward, two steps back but at the end we were very pleased with the outcome. And the best part of it - we are still married!

National Technical Library in Prague

What a visual treat!

Last time I was visiting Prague, my dad took me for a "tour" of the new architectural complex of FA CVUT (Colleague of Civil Engineering and Architecture). While I was impressed with the new studying environment of Department of Architecture within the Civil Engineering School (right below here) I was blown away by the National Technical Library just cross the street.

The outside of the library is wrapped in glass rain screen channel system that creates this amazing soft glow and dimensional feel of the facade.

NTK - rain screen glass channel system

The bare structure of the building is very minimal and basic but is brought to life by the whole way finding concept and super graphics. Floors are covered in colorful patterns that represent the engineering loads, the way-finding system is sreen-painted straight on to the concrete structures and the concrete railing of the galleries in the atrium are covered with child-like doodles with a sense of humor - typical for Czechs...

NTK - atrium study with the illustrations on the railings...do you get that sense of humor?!...:)

NTK - way-finding concept

NTK - lounge study

NTK - library area

NTK - exterior - you get to be educated even here - it tells you how tall/wide the building is...otherwise you might not ever get a real sense and understanding how tall/high  21m actually is...

Very playful, friendly and cheerful yet professional study environment. I wish it was there when I was studying!!!
